Prosthetic Gripper Components

fusion360 fdm 3d-printing mechanical-design fem

Overview

A standalone mechanical design project focused on prosthetic finger components — designed for affordability and printability on consumer FDM printers.

Process

  1. Kinematic analysis: Modelled the four-bar linkage mechanism for natural finger curl
  2. CAD: Designed in Fusion 360 with parametric constraints for easy size scaling
  3. FEM iteration: Ran stress simulations to identify weak points, then iterated on wall thickness and infill geometry
  4. Fabrication: FDM printed in PETG for impact resistance and slight flexibility

Outcome

Multiple design iterations produced a gripper geometry that balances structural strength with minimal material use.
